“Building structures for intercultural integration in Cyprus”: Reflections and next steps

On Thursday 22 June 2023 the coordinators of the five regional intercultural networks in Cyprus (Famagusta, Larnaka, Limassol, Nicosia and Paphos) presented the key results of their district's intercultural index analysis as well as their network strategies and action plans.

The conference on "Building structures for intercultural integration in Cyprus: Reflections and next steps" reflected on what has been achieved over the last two years within the framework of the project and discussed future steps. It also included a presentation of the recent study visit to the intercultural cities of Barcelona and Santa Coloma de Gramenet, which was followed by a panel discussion with the Mayors and Deputy Mayors who participated in the visit on the potential to adapt some of the integration practices seen in Spain to the Cypriot context.

It was also presented “The Prototype Social Cohesion Monitoring Toolkit for the Local Level in Cyprus” by the team of CODECA. The Toolkit is supposed to be tailored for the implementation in the Republic of Cyprus, thus a number of indicators might be adapted with references to the existing policies and measures.

The aim of the conference was to show how the conceptual, analytical and policymaking tools of the Council of Europe’s Intercultural Cities Programme will continue to support intercultural integration in Cyprus, through the implementation of the 2023-2025 action plans and strategies of the five regional intercultural networks.

The conference took place in Leventis Gallery in Nicosia and was organised in collaboration with the Civil Registry and Migration Department of the Ministry of the Interior.
